The Minnesota Vikings could have one high-profile backup running back. Tomlinson was released by the San Diego Chargers last week and has scheduled a number of visits with potential teams. Tomlinson ranks eighth on the NFL’s all-time rushing list with 12,490 yards. His 138 career rushing touchdowns rank second, and his 153 total touchdowns rank third. After their hardest three-game stretch of the season, the Vikings coasted through their easiest three-game stretch. Coming out of their bye, the Vikings won their past three games, all at the Metrodome, by an average of 23 points. “It was huge,” Vikings receiver Sidney Rice said. “Good teams win at home.” “That airplane takes a lot out of guys,” he said. Now, though, is another challenging stretch, with three of the next four games on the road. The Vikings will head to Arizona to face NFC champion Arizona and then host the AFC North-leading Cincinnati Bengals before heading to Charlotte, N.C., to face the Carolina Panthers. The Minnesota Vikings signed Brad Childress to a contract extension that will keep the coach with the team through the 2013 season, a source told ESPN.com Thursday. “Brad has done a tremendous job leading this football team and we value the positive environment he has created for the Minnesota Vikings on and off the field,” Vikings owner Zygi Wilf said in a statement. “He has continued to positively impact this team and create a strong foundation for future success.”
Minnesota Vikings Sports Memorabilia Sidney Rice has improved by working out with the former 49ers superstar, and clicking with Brett Favre. Now, Stewart is coaching another wide receiver named Rice,as in Sidney Rice, for the third year. While Jerry will be a Hall of Famer very soon, the fast-improving Sidney has a long way to go before he reaches that point in his career. Stewart said that when Sidney Rice was a rookie, he thought the former South Carolina star would parallel Jerry Rice. Minnesota Vikings Sports Memorabilia Brett Favre cut off the question in midsentence. “I’ve heard boos in that stadium before,” said Favre, the longtime Green Bay Packers quarterback who will return to Lambeau Field on Sunday as a Minnesota Viking. “Honestly. Numerous times. That was obviously different. As a player there, you don’t expect to hear that in your home stadium. But I didn’t play every game in that stadium very well. I played (well) a lot, but there was some times where we struggled, and that was kind of a kick in the stomach hearing those boos. “It wasn’t often. There was way more cheers. And I suppose there will be a little bit of both this week.” Minnesota Vikings Sports Memorabilia As Brett Favre rolled right and looked downfield for Sidney Rice late in Sunday’s game against Baltimore, the Vikings quarterback had no idea if he could complete the pass he was about to attempt. “I didn’t know if I could make [that throw] before I made it the other day,” Favre said Wednesday. “But I was willing to take that chance and it was kind of like after I threw it, I went, ‘Whew, all right.’” Minnesota Vikings Sports Memorabilia |
