Favre proving his arm’s still up to task

As Brett Favre rolled right and looked downfield for Sidney Rice late in Sunday’s game against Baltimore, the Vikings quarterback had no idea if he could complete the pass he was about to attempt.

At the age of 40, with a biceps tendon that had been surgically repaired and a rotator cuff that remains partially torn in his throwing arm, the odds probably were against him. But with less than three minutes remaining and his team trailing by a point, Favre scrambled to his 21-yard line and let fly. Sixty-one yards downfield, Rice caught the nearly perfectly thrown pass while being interfered with to set up Ryan Longwell’s eventual winning field goal.

“I didn’t know if I could make [that throw] before I made it the other day,” Favre said Wednesday. “But I was willing to take that chance and it was kind of like after I threw it, I went, ‘Whew, all right.’”
